From Frontier Settlement to Town

By the end of the nineteenth century, Wooster had expanded immensely with a noticeable growth in population and prosperity, evidenced by an increase in the quantity of cultivated acres of land. The number of businesses was rising in both industry, such as mills and steam engine manufacturers, and business, such as grocery stores and hat makers. Wooster was leaving behind its reputation as an early frontier town and moving toward its newer role as county seat.
